Since 1976 the Van der Heyden family have owned and operated Heyden Farms in Lichfield in the South Waikato.
Originally my parents, Peter and Rita Van der Heyden, developed the farm growing the business to 5000 layer hens in the first 14 years.
In 1990 I purchased the farm from my parents to become the sole owners of the operation. I started a modernisation project in 1994 to automate the poultry systems at the Lichfield site, and continued to grow the business to an 80,000 strong layer hen capacity. Our newest and most recent shareholder, Sir Henry Van der Heyden joined us in 2006.
Expansion and growth
Since 2006 I have expanded the business growing to a huge 220,000 Hen, egg producing poultry farming operation with two sites, one in Lichfield and one in Kawerau.
Now we employ a total of 90 staff, 60 at their Lichfield site and 30 in Kawerau. We are proud of what we have achieved, and that we support the South Waikato community by employing local people.
